Since the arrival of the EARTH DEATH, new plant sculptures have been appearing in various settings around the park. Following on from IMAGINARY WORLDS I and II and ALICE’S WONDERFUL WORLD, among other themes, with ALICE’S RETURN visitors discover the WHITE RABBIT and a magnificent garden of SINGING FLOWERS.

During its festival of flowers and gastronomy
Magnificent GIANT PAPILLIONS bring the threads where MAMAN PARTON makes the iconic MULTICOLOR COAT. PARAPLUIE, WASHING RATONS, BEARS AND TURTLES, among others, also delight visitors.

This prestigious garden welcomes its very first mosaic work as part of its exhibition, WONDERLAND: CURIOUS NATURE. Alice’s WHITE RABBIT, seated in the middle of the imposing fountain, greets visitors as soon as they arrive.

These TWO GRAND EXHIBITIONS, including the one in 2017 to celebrate the 150th OF THE CANADIAN CONFEDERATION, left their mark on the Outaouais landscape. The 8 MILLION plants, comprising 210 SPECIES and VARIETY, delighted 1.6 million visitors.

MOSAICULTURES INTERNATIONALES DE MONTRÉAL is chosen for the entire mosaiculture component of this world’s fair.
Under the theme of A GREEN WORLD FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS, the history of DOMESTICATION on the continents – some from prehistory to the present day – as well as the use of plants and animals for AGRICULTURE are illustrated in mosaiculture. Among the most remarkable paintings are LEGEND and THE SILK ROAD.

Montreal Botanical Garden
TWENTY COUNTRIES compete amicably at TERRE D’ESPÉRANCE to illustrate the beauty and fragility of life on the planet. More than 50 WORKS raise visitors’ awareness of biodiversity, including L’ARBRE AUX OISEAUX (THE BIRD TREE), a majestic 16 M HIGH with 56 BIRDS representing endangered species.

Hamamatsu Floral Park
To illustrate THE SYMPHONY OF MAN AND NATURE, the work THE MAN WHO PLANTED TREES represents Montreal. Inspired by Frédéric Back’s animated film, it wins FIRST PRIZE among 97 cities and organizations from 25 countries. Like a metaphor, its musical score, dotted with maple trees, instills hope: from an arid land, life returns under the action of a single man.

MOSAÏCULTURES INTERNATIONALES DE MONTRÉAL produces and installs the 4 PERMANENT WORKS of mosaiculture exhibited in the headquarters tower of the famous Bank of America, more specifically in the Urban Garden room. This first LEED platinum-certified building was inaugurated on May 20 of the following year.

The main theme, THE EARTH, OUR VILLAGE, was followed by TELL ME ABOUT THE ARTS OF YOUR CITY. In the international category, MONTREAL ON STAGE tied for GRAND PRIX D’HONONNEUR with 54 other cities and organizations. Over a million visitors enjoyed the work.

51 CITIES FROM 32 COUNTRIES take part in this 2nd international mosaiculture competition, under the theme MYTHS AND LEGENDS OF THE WORLD. The GRAND PRIX DU PUBLIC is awarded to THE LEGEND OF MOTHER EARTH. This very first MOTHER EARTH mosaic, and those to follow, are sure to win the hearts of visitors with their beauty and powerful message.

A WORLD FIRST: 35 cities from 14 countries compete in ingenuity to offer visitors unique 2D or 3D plant works, under the theme THE PLANET IS A MOSAIC. The competition, created to mark the arrival of the new millennium, was so successful that it set the standard for all subsequent large-scale mosaic exhibitions around the world.
