While the space fills with the musical emanations of Glenn Gould’s piano playing, accompanied by a cellist, the ballerina twirls around, like those in the music boxes of our youth.
Through this prima ballerina, we pay tribute to Les Grands Ballets Canadiens dance company by marking its sixtieth anniversary.
Founded in 1958 by Ludmilla Chiriaeff, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal is the most experimental and progressive of Canada’s three major ballet companies (with the National Ballet of Canada and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet). The company is known for its varied repertoire, which includes both contemporary works and the great narrative classics of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Les Grands Ballets has also presented many original works commissioned to Canadian choreographers, composers and designers.
